My serious interest in alternative health and medicine began while seeking help for sciatica issues due to disc herniations in my lower back. While learning to treat my pain, I became so involved in the healing process that I wanted to deepen my understanding of the healing arts.
I have always considered myself a healthy person, so when pain became a constant part of my life I had questions as to how and why this had happened. Many types of healers helped me while searching for relief: doctors, physical therapists, acupuncturists, energy healers, and, of course, massage therapists. They inspired me to continue my studies in order to help others.
For nearly two years I traveled seeking and learning. In California I was introduced to Eastern methods of healing including Yoga, Ayurveda (traditional Indian Medicine) and Reiki. Mexico offered me the opportunity to work closely with a physical therapist and doctor, restoring my faith and interest in Western medicine. Then I continued to India, which proved to be an inspiring country rich in spirituality and a strong belief in natural medicine. My perspective on massage, a common practice there, was thoroughly enriched. While in India, I began practicing Reiki at The Yogi Vision Foundation in Pune, India.
Finally, I returned to New York and enrolled at the Swedish Institute College of Health and Sciences to study massage therapy. Since then I have become a practitioner of body and energy work, taking inspiration from both East and West. |
